We, New Yorkers, should all look at http://www.nysenate.gov/opendata and http://www.nysenate.gov/expenditure-report-period-ending-9-30-2014
For example, here are the expenditures
New York State Senate Expenditure Report Period Ending 9-30-2014

You can find each senator and their expenditures. The largest seems to be millions of dollars in postage. Should we have a referendum to require the legislature to pay for their own advertisements. But we cannot have a referendum because New York State does not allow the people to bring their own initiatives directly to the ballot for referendum. Amazing.
